Joy Mining Machinery (Joy) has developed a "Mining Education Program" that involves Joy employees visiting schools, of all grade levels, for the purpose of informing students about the benefits of mining and the role minerals play in their every day lives. With the practical information presented about minerals, students are able to understand why the mining industry is beneficial to them. Joy instructors have been trained to provide an information session to students in grades K to 12. Prior to the actual information session, a Joy instructor will meet with the teacher to go over all the material available and tailor an information session that meets the needs of both the students and teacher. Materials available include rock and mineral samples, videos, posters and booklets.
School superintendents, principals and teachers that are interested in finding out more about this FREE program should contact John Blicha / 724.873.4257; or Michelle Schultz / 724.873.4242.
Joy’s Mining Education Program has been recognized by the Interstate Mining Compact Commission as the winner of its minerals education award in the public outreach category, and as the winner of the National Mining Association Chairman's Excellence in Mining Education award.
